Artist Statement – Oléron Landscape
By Monique TyackeOleron Landscape is a celebration of the natural beauty and coastal charm of Île d’Oléron, France. Through expressive brushwork and a vibrant yet harmonious color palette, I aimed to capture the serene yet dynamic atmosphere of this picturesque island.
The coastline, with its shifting tides and ever-changing light, has always fascinated me. In this piece, the beach huts stand as quiet sentinels against the vast expanse of sky and sea, evoking a sense of nostalgia and tranquility. My approach to this work balances abstraction and realism, allowing the textures and movement of the landscape to emerge organically. The interplay of color and form reflects both the energy and stillness of the shoreline—a place where nature and human presence exist in gentle harmony.
This painting is an invitation to pause, to breathe in the salty air, and to lose oneself in the rhythm of the waves and the charm of Oléron’s coastal life.
