Wonderland is a series of abstract landscapes exploring colour, shape, balance and the suggestion of place without describing any one landscape literally. Built from layered forms and an intuitive sense of composition, the works sit somewhere between memory, imagination and abstraction. They are familiar enough to suggest a landscape, but open enough to become something entirely their own.
Colour carries much of the emotion and structure in these paintings, creating shifts in mood, depth and movement across the surface. While the compositions are carefully considered, I like them to retain a sense of freedom and discovery, allowing each viewer to find their own landscape, memory or association within the work.
