Artist Statement – Skin Series

The Skin series explores the intimacy of sunlit bodies, human connection, and the fleeting moments of leisure. Inspired by the Australian beach culture, these works capture the warmth of the sun, the texture of skin, and the quiet interactions between figures lost in their own worlds.
 
Through a minimal yet vibrant colour palette, I reduce the human form to its essential elements—light, shadow, and shape - allowing the viewer to engage with the abstracted figures without distraction. Each painting is an invitation to experience the nostalgia of summer, the serenity of stillness, and the tactile sensation of warmth against the skin.
 
The use of negative space emphasises the subjects, stripping away unnecessary details and placing focus on human presence and body language. Whether basking in solitude, conversing in hushed tones, or simply coexisting in a shared moment, these figures embody the beauty of presence and relaxation.
 
Ultimately, Skin is a meditation on the way light dances on our bodies, how colour shapes our perception of human form, and the quiet poetry of time spent in the sun.
